OSPREY and NOKOMIS

Osprey, Florida is located in Sarasota County, just south of Sarasota and north of Venice and Nokomis.  It is home to two major attractions:  Oscar Scherer State Park and Historic Spanish Point.  Osprey, at one time an old fishing village, has undergone considerable development over the last few years.  It is now home to several up-scale neighborhoods, including Rivendell, Southbay and The Oaks.  In addition, there are a number of waterfront homes and communities . Bay Street Village and Town Center, a new concept of mixed use development is planned, starting in early 2006. Known as the New Urbanist style of development, it brings a village-type scheme including multi-family residential units, along with retail, office and commercial space, including restaurants.  Several acres have been donated by the developer to Sarsota County for construction of a library.  This area is already home to a new Walmart.

Nokomis, Florida, located just south of Osprey and north of Venice, was likewise, an old fishing village.  It is in the process of undergoing major changes as developers look to bring a new "face" to the area.  Nokomis is home to several nice neighborhoods, including Sorrento East, Sorrento Shores, Sorrento Woods, Mission Valley Estates and Calusa Lakes.  There are also a number of waterfront homes and communities.  Casey Key, a narrow barrier island bordered by the intracoastal on the east and the Gulf on the west, is located in Nokomis.  It is has some of the most expensive real estate in the area.  Nokomis Beach is located on the south end of the Key.
